Comic Book Art

Selected pages from a comic book illustrated for the Bible Society.

Below is a series of pictures depicting biblical events in order of occurrence. I created these in collaboration with fellow artist Daryl Peninton. Daryl made the rough layouts, I then did the pencils and inks and sent them on back to Daryl. He then put flat colours in on the computer and sent them back to me to add tones, highlights, tweaks and special effects.

The illustrations were for a book project titled 'The Big Bible Challenge', which ended up winning Children's Book of the Year at Christian Resources Together 2012, so I'd like to think that the illustrations played a part in that. We made 20 of these comic book style illustrations for the book altogether, and even snuck ourselves into one scene, I'm not saying where!

Here are a few different pieces of comic book work that I've done over the years.
Oldest at the bottom, newest at the top.

  1. Hi Matt Baker,
LOVE your work!! Neal Adams quality. We'd like to use this art (The Demoniac) in Message Magazine, America's oldest, continuous, religious journal for the Black audience. It would be a one-time use (May/June 2017 issue), full-color, half-page, inside with full credit given. Please let me know if we can do this, ASAP. Thnx, Ron J. Pride

    1. Hi Ron,
Thanks for the compliment, glad you like my work!
Are you planning on paying for the use of my picture or were you hoping to use it for free? And is there anywhere online that I could check out Message Magazine? If you'd like to provide me with your email address we could discuss this more via email.
      Regards, Matt.
